John was born in New York City in 1932. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the
United States Air Force. One day while playing basketball, a country girl from Walla Walla,
Washington caught his eye. They were married a month later and after a few transfers, settled
in Lakewood, NJ in 1963 to raise their family. They were together for over 40 years and raised 4
children until her passing.
When John left the Air Force, he went to work in the computer industry. He traveled all over the
world, installing and fixing computers. He made many friends in his 30 years with Univac/Sperry
and retired in 1987.
In 1997, John met Betty Dittman. He was blessed to have a new love in his life, to grow old with.
Betty was with him to the end.
John was an active member of the Lakewood community for over 50 years, always ready to lend
a hand to anyone in need. He was active at the First Presbyterian Church of Lakewood , serving
as an Elder and a Deacon. He was a lifetime member of the Lakewood Blackhawks and the
American Legion. John enjoyed coaching Little League and playing golf with buddies and was
an avid bowler. He was a diehard Mets and Jets fan. John was a loving husband, brother,
father, grandfather and great grandfather.
John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Helen (Blue), his parents, Elizabeth and Stephen Molnar, and his grandson, Matthew DeFrance.
John is survived by his brother, Steve Molnar and his sister Bette Matthews, his children, John Molnar, Jr. (Heidi), Richard Molnar, Susan DeFrance (Henri), and Daniel Molnar (Christy). He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Nicole Harrison (Steve), Kaylyn Molnar, Julie Baugess (Casey), Henri DeFrance, Jr., Ricky Molnar, Christopher Molnar, Stephen Molnar, Rebecca DeFrance, Justin Molnar, Helena DeFrance and Danielle Molnar and by his great grandchildren, Astrid Musser, Stephen and Jackson Harrison and Jack Baugess. He is also survived by his dear companion and partner for over twenty years, Betty Dittman, their pets Champ and Eva, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Visitation will be held Thursday from 4-8 pm at D’Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood.
Funeral Service Friday, 10 am at the First Presbyterian Church, 313 Clifton Ave, Lakewood.
