Joseph R Smith Jr.

Born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, Joseph graduated from Madison Central High School, Old Bridge, NJ, in 1985. He lived in Old Bridge for many years before relocating to Jackson in 1986 and eventually settling in Lakewood in 1993. Joseph earned his degree from Rider University in 1990 and had a successful career in banking and finance in the New Jersey/ New York area. He later took time off to care for his mother, Cristel L. Smith, who before her retirement owned and operated a flower shop in Marlboro Township, NJ.

Joseph was known for his strong bond with family and his friends. At Rider University, he was an active member and chapter Secretary of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. Joe also enjoyed going to baseball games and frequently visiting at the New Jersey Shore. He was also a martial arts practitioner in Aikido. Joe was also a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Manchester Township, NJ.

Joseph will be remembered for his quiet nature, his role as the "voice of reason," and as a truly great friend.

Joseph was predeceased by his mother, Cristel L. Smith, in 2022, and his father, Joseph R. Smith, Sr., in 1975.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood, NJ. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m., with interment at 11:30 a.m. at Old Tennant Cemetery in Manalapan, NJ.
