Joseph Robert Zarrelli, age 91, beloved husband of the late Victoria Ann Zarrelli, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at Monmouth Medical Center after a brief illness. A lifelong New Jersey resident, Joe dedicated much of his life to education, having served as a teacher and vice principal in the Newark school system.
Joe is survived by his three children: Gina Diggins and her husband Jack, Peter and his wife Sue, and Michael. He was also a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and a cherished great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren.
He was an avid sports fan, with a deep love for football, baseball, golf, and horse racing. Joseph found joy in spending time with his family, sharing his passion for cooking, and connecting with others. He was known for his social nature and the warmth he brought to every conversation.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no viewing or funeral services. Joseph will be laid to rest alongside his late wife, Victoria, at Gates of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ, where she predeceased him in 1970.
