Marita Ann Cassi

GREENACRES, FL & LAKEWOOD, NJ – Marita Ann Cassi, nee Gillen, of Greenacres, FL and Lakewood, NJ, and formerly of Linden and Mantoloking, NJ, died on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

Mrs. Cassi was born on March 29, 1933 in Elizabeth, NJ, the daughter of Dennis Gillen Sr. and Helen Tiroly Gillen. She was a 1949 graduate of Battin High School in Elizabeth and earned a bachelor’s degree from Trenton State Teachers’ College, Ewing, NJ in 1953. She taught at Bound Brook High School in NJ, and worked in Personnel at White Laboratories in Kenilworth, NJ. She married August Cassi in 1955.

Mrs. Cassi was a devoted longtime volunteer for organizations including: Bender Memorial Academy, Elizabeth, NJ; St. John the Apostle Church and School, Clark, NJ; Mother Seton Regional High School, Clark, NJ; Roselle Catholic High School, Roselle, NJ; and JFK Medical Center, Atlantis, FL.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, August Cassi; her son, Steven Cassi; a brother, Dennis Gillen, Jr.; and by her parents.

Surviving is her daughter, Jane Cassi and her husband Lew Yedwab of Nesconset, NY; a daughter-in-law, Diana Cassi of Fort Collins, CO; grandchildren: Elizabeth, Tiffany, Vincent, and Steven; and many relatives and friends in New Jersey, Florida, and elsewhere.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 14, from 2-4 & 7-9PM at D’Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood, NJ.
