Martin W. Huggins, age 94, of Toms River, NJ, passed away on Sunday November 17, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Martin was born on July 24, 1925 in Spring Lake, NJ, and he was the son of the late Rose (Walling) and Wilbur Huggins who was a descendant of the former US President Woodrow Wilson. Martin was raised in Avon-by-the Sea, and was a former resident of Wayside, Ocean Township, NJ for thirty three years, before moving to the Greenbriar Woodlands section of Toms River, NJ. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II, having served during the North Africa Invasion and in the Pacific Theatre. After the war, he continued to serve his country by working at the US Naval Weapons Station in Earle, NJ until his retirement. He served upon the Ordinance Planning Board in Colts Neck, NJ. Martin was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1333 in Asbury Park, NJ. He was active in Greenbriar Woodlands, and he was a member of the community's Men's Club, Billiards Club and Golf Club.
Husband of 72 years to the late Carol Fischer Huggins who passed away earlier this year, and father of the late Christopher Huggins who passed away in 1981, he is survived by his son, Brian Michael Huggins; his grandchildren, Amiko Donegan and her husband James and Anthony Huggins; two great grandchildren, Damion Huggins and Madison Borbotko; and two step-great-grandchildren, Paige and Kayla.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at the D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701. A eulogy will be offered at the conclusion of the visitation. Burial will be private in Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls, NJ.
