Born March 1, 1935, in Trenton, New Jersey, Mary was a woman of determination and warmth. She had an entrepreneurial spirit from a young age, founding and successfully running a nursery school in her twenties for over a decade. Later, she became a top insurance sales representative for Prudential before ultimately dedicating herself to what she considered her most important role; CEO of the Giovacchini household.
Mary was well known for her farmhouse in Hopewell Township, New Jersey. For over 50 years, her home was a cherished gathering place filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable memories. It was the heart of countless celebrations, where generations came together to create bonds to last a lifetime.
In addition to her beloved farmhouse, Mary found great joy spending time on the family boat, the Quo Vadis, docked on Long Beach Island. Countless dock parties were hosted and filled with happiness, music, and fun where sunny days and warm evenings on the water created endless memories that her loved ones will treasure forever.
Mary spent the last eight years with her husband John, living down at the Jersey Shore, where she had always dreamed of being. Together, they enjoyed a life filled with love, peace, and the ocean breeze she so adored.
Mary was the heart and soul of her family and will be sincerely missed by many. Known affectionately as "Nan", she was the backbone of every gathering. Holidays and birthdays were always celebrated at her home, where she took immense joy in preparing elaborate meals for those she loved. Her homemade ravioli and gnocchi were the popular favorites, but it was her spaghetti and crab sauce that became legendary among family and friends.
Mary was a woman of faith and found great happiness in long conversations with those closest to her, treasuring every moment spent with family. A devoted mother to her three children, Don, Jeff, and Mary Lou Giovacchini, Mary also adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always offering them wisdom, guidance, and warm hugs.
Mary is predeceased by her former husband, Louis Giovacchini, and her daughter, Mary Lou Hartway. She is survived by her current husband, John Howland, sons Don and Jeff Giovacchini, son-in-law Gene Hartway, her grandchildren Fallon Giovacchini, Donnie Giovacchini, Leslie Giovacchini, Steven Giovacchini, Sara Hartway, David Hartway, and her great-grandchildren, Louis Giovacchini, Noelle Giovacchini, Milania Catanzariti, and Audry Giovacchini who will continue to cherish her memory.
Her legacy lives on through the love she shared and the traditions she built within her family.
May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
A small private ceremony will take place next week. We appreciate your respect of the wishes of Mary and her family.
