Nicholas D. Matvienko, 64, passed away January 2, 2013 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. Mr. Matvienko was born in the Bronx and moved to Lakewood where he spent most of his life before settling in Manchester for the past 8 years. Nicholas was a 1966 graduate of Lakewood High School. He served in the US Coast Guard Reserve, retiring from the Lakehurst Naval Air Base in Lakehurst. Mr. Matvienko was the past president of the Lakewood Black Hawks and is a life member. He was a member of the Elks and American Legion in Lakewood. Nicholas was an avid traveler, drummer and loved to spend time with his family and especially his granddaughter. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother and will be greatly missed by all. Mr. Matvienko is predeceased by his father Dimitry Matvienko. Nicholas is survived by his wife Jayne of 42 years, three sons, Christopher Matvienko of Manchester, Gregory Matvienko and his wife Heather of Jackson, and Jeffrey Matvienko and his wife Teressa of North Arlington, granddaughter, Alina Mary Matvienko, mother, Tania Matvienko, sister, Tania Napiorski, brother, Michael Matvienko and many nieces and nephews . Friends may call Sunday, January 6, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the D’Elia Funeral Home Rt. 70 & Vermont Ave. Lakewood, NJ 08701. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 9:30PM at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran’s Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
