

LAKEWOOD- Stanley J. Marszalek, Jr., a resident of the Enclave, passed away on August 18, 2021, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Carnegie, PA to Stanley and Martha Marszalek on May 29, 1934. Stan attended St. Ignatius grade school and Scott Twp. High School, Scott Twp., PA. He earned his BA degree from Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA in 1961. He was a proud veteran of the Marine Corps, having served from 1953 to 1956. The Marines were always in his heart. SEMPER FI! After graduating from college, Stan Began his career as an Underwriter with Liberty Mutual in Baltimore, MD, and later with Prudential Property & Casualty in Holmdel, NJ where he retired as an Underwriting Manager. He earned his CPCU (Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter) designation in 1982. After retirement, he discovered acting and became involved in community theater. He was a quiet man who came alive on stage. He performed at the Count Basie in Red Bank in many shows, including as "Mayor Shin" in "Music Man." He also performed many shows at the Strand in Lakewood, including his role as "Seldon the Burglar" in "Noises Off," and many productions in "Scrooge." He was nominated for the Perry Award in 2002 for his role as "Carl" the bus driver in "Bus Stop" at First Ave Playhouse in Atlantic Highlands. He also performed many shows at Guild Theater Works in Brick, NJ. He was an avid dancer with his wife, Dee (especially the waltz) and an avid exerciser, walking 3 miles per day as well as exercising at the Enclave gym. Stan was a communicant of St. Catharine's in Holmdel, NJ as well as head usher at the 11 a.m. Mass, for 33 years while living in Middletown, from 1974 to 2007. He has been a communicant of St. Luke's Toms River from 2007 to present. Stan was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Martha, brother Daniel, sister Dorothy, and sister Helen Hwilka and family, including niece and Godchild, Debbie , and nephew Joseph Marszalek. Stan is survived by his wife of 60 years Dolores (Dee), son Stanley III who resides in Wyoming, a brother William in Pgh., PA, a niece and a nephew Sharon and John Hwilka in Chesterfield, VA, plus many other nieces, grand nieces and nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends will be received on Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. at the D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood, NJ 08701. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 27, 2021 in St. Luke Church, 1674 Old Freehold Road, Toms River, NJ 08755. Committal services will follow in the St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery Mausoleum in Lakewood, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society, St. Luke Church, 1674 Old Freehold Road, Toms River, NJ 08755.
