

Terence Steven Hegarty (“Terry”) of Tom’s River, New Jersey passed away on Wednesday, the 20th of April 2022 at the age of 76 after a 25 year battle with cancer. Despite the immense challenge over the years, Terry defied the odds and stayed strong until the end.
He is survived by his loving wife Lee, who fought by his side each and every day, his three sons Terence, Steven and Brian, three daughter-in-laws Diana, Janett and Tracy and four grandchildren Tegan, Devan, Natalie and Julia, who will each continue to honor his legacy by following his example and living their lives to the fullest. Terry is survived by his sister Louise and brother Joseph and preceded in death by his father Michael, mother Helen and his siblings Marilyn, Michael, Kenneth, Jane and Patrick.
Terry’s pride was his beloved family and friends with whom he shared incredible stories from his adventures as Captain at the Jersey City Police Department responsible for the 911 emergency service, as a real-estate appraiser and from his passion for cars, politics and technology. When not watching the latest series and spending time with family, Terry was busy uncovering family secrets through his keen interest in the family ancestry and genealogy.
Terry will be greatly missed but never forgotten. He touched so many people and inspired everyone with his intellect, integrity and determination.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, the 23rd of April at St. Luke’s Church located at 1674 Old Freehold Road in Tom’s River and arranged by D’Elia’s funeral home. Internment of his ashes in the family plot at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington NJ will be at a future date.
