

Barbara Jean Griffin was the eldest of five children born to Andrew Hill and Smithie Johnson Hill on November 11, 1934 in Galveston, Texas. She was educated in the public schools of Dickinson, Texas where she attended Dunbar High School. At an early age, she united with Warren Chapel Methodist Church. Later she united with New Jerusalem Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. James A. Wrenn. She served on the Usher Board until her health failed. Affectionately known as “Bob”, “Aunt Bob”, “Lucy” to her brothers and “Maw Maw” to her grandchildren, her warm smile and inspirational talks with family and friends will always be cherished by those who knew and loved her. On November 14, 2016, “Bob” answered her call to eternal rest. She is preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Griffin; her parents, Andrew and Smithie Hill; brothers, Andrew Jr., Johnny and Joseph; sister, Mildred Vorsburgh; and a nephew whom she reared, Samuel Griffin. Left with cherished memories in their hearts are her beloved sister, Ruby Wright; her children, Barbara A. Griffin and Anthony Q. Griffin, Sr.; grandchildren, Sunny Griffin, Brandy Preston, Anthony Q Griffin Jr. and Sidnie Reed; devoted nieces, Glenda Matthews and Sharon Wright; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
