

On April 20, 1919, a beautiful baby girl was born in LaGrange, Texas to James and Hattie Fields. She was given the name Ella. She was loved and cared for dearly by her family. Ella accepted Christ at an early age and always felt at home in the church. She was a graduate of Central High School in Galveston. She met and married, the love of her life, A.C. Ulrich. This loving union remained for sixty years until the Lord called him home. Ella and A.C. made their home in the LaMarque/Texas City where they raised their family. Ella attended College of the Mainland and Alvin College where she obtained a degree and practiced as a Medication Nurse. She was a compassionate and dutiful employee of 5th Avenue Nursing Home, where she retired after numerous years of service. Ella united with the Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the Reverend Dr. D.N. Benford, Sr., remaining a devout member for well over fifty years. Ella was very faithful and active in her church, serving as secretary of the Bible Band, Pastor's Aide, Senior Choir and Mission Chorus, she also served with the General Mission Circle #4 and the Culinary Committee. She loved her Pastor and wife so very much. She believed in supporting her church. Her dedication to her family, church and community was honor in January 2009 when she received the Mainland United Task Force Martin Luther King, Jr., Unsung Hero Award. Ella was loyal and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, mentor and friend. She was an encourager of the youth and an inspiration to all who crossed her path. She was an elegant Christian woman that exemplified the fruits of the Spirit in her daily life. She truly loved her children and grandchildren; they were the highlights of her life. She especially enjoyed gardening, cooking, and serving the community. She will always have a special place in our hearts forever. On Tuesday, January 1, 2013 God chose to call His daughter home to receive her reward. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sons, Larry Ulrich Sr. and Harold Fields Sr.; granddaughter, Tonya Matthews White, siblings, James Fields Jr., Blanche Knotts, Annie Lee Fifer, Dorothy Gary and Marie Fields, nephew, Alfred "Fats" Gary, and other loved ones. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Gwen Ulrich Matthews and A.C. Ulrich, Jr.; her grandchildren, Gail Roberts, Chanda Walker, Charles Matthews Jr., Harold Fields, Jr., Davidra Sanja (Cyrus) and Larry Ulrich Jr.; great-grandchildren, Matthew White, Chayla Walker, Kaila Sajna, Maxwell Sajna, Ethan Sajna and Nathaniel Sajna; her nephews, Jewell Gary (Carrie), Carlton Gary, Wayne Gary (Ruthie), Russell Gary (Deborah) and Albert Fifer Jr.; nieces, Gloria Little, Kathleen Sue Rhodes and Beverly Wilkins a host of other nieces, nephews, God-children, her Rising Star Church Family, other relatives and many friends.
