

Our beloved husband, son, brother, father, grandfather Melvin Devon White was born on May 9, 1954 in Galveston, Texas to Darlene White and Sammie Lee White, Sr. Melvin, lovingly known by family and friends as “Jerry or Slick”, accepted Christ at the age of 9 at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church and later united with Progressive Missionary Baptist Church both located in Texas City, Texas. His favorite scripture was 23rd Psalms. He graduated from La Marque High School in La Marque, Texas in 1973. Upon graduation, he attended College of Mainland then transferred to University of Houston-Central Campus pursuing a degree in Business Administration while working full time at Rex’s Tailor as a sales associate. In 1979, he accepted a position at Levitz’s Furniture Store where he earned the title of “Million Dollar Sales Producer” and carried that title until the closing of their doors in 1998. In January, 1982 during his outstanding sales career at Levitz’s, he met, Sharon Rideau whom he fell in love with and married in April 1982, during these thirty-four years of union a devoted son and best friend was born Kodi Mason White. Upon Levitz’s closure in 1998, he continued to earn the title of “Million Dollar Sales Producer” at Finger’s/Ashley’s Furniture Store located in Pasadena, Texas until his health failed in November, 2016. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Sharon R. White; devoted son and best friend, Kodi Mason White (Melissa); five grandchildren, (Bella, Savour, Gabriela, Natalia, Karrington); adoptive son, Felix Irizarry; God-daughters, Samantha Randle, Ebony Clausell, and Bria White; Father and Mother, Sammie L. White Sr. and Darlene White; brothers, Rev. Rayford Butler (Yvonne) and Sammie L. White Jr. (Rosie); sisters, Amy J. Wilson (Mark), Lisa Artie Banks (Ladell); uncles, Herman E. Davis (Oscar Lynn), Benjamin Davis (Deanna), and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers and friends. Celebration of Life Services will be Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Hopewell Baptist Church, 316 Pine Rd. in Texas City with visitation at 10:00 AM followed by services at 11:00 AM. Burial following at Houston Memorial Gardens.
