
Claude Young The journey for Claude L. Young began on August 26, 1939 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was the first-born of five children to the late Willie Sr. and Queen E. Roston-Young. When he was a young child his parents moved the family to Houston’s Historic 5th Ward. He was baptized at Galilee Baptist Church and had affiliations with , 1st St. Mark Baptist Church and True Light Baptist Church. Claude’s education began in HISD, where he attended Bruce Elementary, E.O. Smith Junior High and Phillis Wheatley High School. At E.O. Smith he was a proud member of the highly-esteemed Mustang Student Council. In high school he was a member of Mrs. Lilly’s Drama Club acting in numerous stage plays. He was also a proud member of Lieutenant Howards’ high stepping ROTC. Out of necessity he entered the workforce full-time during the spring semester of twelfth grade. Encouraged by his Mother and a great deal of self-determination he enrolled in night school where he completed his studies to receive his high school diploma! Due to his BOLD personality he was loved by all and as the saying goes never met a stranger. He was a dependable and hardworking man that always said “no matter what, a Man should always take care of his family”. In adhering to his own advice he was employed by the following companies: Uvalde Rock Co., St. Luke’s Hospital-Medical Center, Sears & Roebuck, Missouri Pacific Railroad and Johnson Space Center (NASA). Doing his career at JSC he received many awards of appreciation for his work as a Leadman/Trainer but in 2009 he was most proud to receive the prestigious Snopy Award which is considered the highest honor awarded a JSC employee. In March 2014 after a long and decorated career he retired from JSC after 45 years of service! Claude had many passions throughout his life like music, watching westerns, professional sports, dancing, playing tennis, entertaining family and friends to name a few but he was MOST passionate about mentoring young adults and kids. A very active individual until he became ill he was a member of The Afro-American Corvette Club, Shad Club # 2, and Civic Clubs in his Neighborhood. He, ENJOYED LIFE TO THE FULLEST!!! He was preceded in death by his parents Willie Sr. & Queen Ethel, Mother-in-law Beatrice, Brothers, Willie Jr and Robert (Poochie), Brother-in-law, Frank J, Stepdaughter, Chandra, Niece, Shirley and Nephews, Billie and Wilfred. He leaves to cherish his spouse, Ruby, Father-in-law, Isarel, Sister, Idella, Brother, Chester, Sisters-in-Laws, Doris and Darlene, Sons, Phillip and Steven, devoted and loving daughter Monica, Godson, Cory and Goddaughter Michelle, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
