

Ommie Lee Dawson Simmons was a twin girl born to Tommmie and Alma Dawson August 20, 1929 in Arcadia, Louisiana. She was educated in the public schools of Arcadia and Leesville, Louisiana. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. She moved to Texas City, Texas in 1948 and later married O. T. Simmons. She united with Greater Barbour's Chapel Baptist Church in Texas City, Texas under the leadership of Reverend J. H. Scott. She continues to serve as a faithful member under the leadership of Reverend Bennie Reynolds, Reverend L. B. Brown, Reverend H. A. Ratcliff Jr., Reverend James Brown, Sr. and Reverend Andrew W. Berry II. Sister Ommie was a long time member of the Gospel Chorus and Rehab Circle of the General Missionary Society. She served as a faithful church member until her health failed. She was also a committed precinct worker and participated in the Voters elections. Sister Ommie retired from the College of the Mainland where she was employed for many years. She was also a 50+ year member of Lakeview Court #262 Heroines of Jericho - Prince Hall Affiliation. On May 9, 2015, Ommie Lee Simmons passed into her eternal rest. She is preceded in death by her parents, Tommie Dawson and Alma Causey; son, Tommie Joe Brooks Sr. and daughter-in-law, Brenda Brooks; sister, Willie Maude Dawson; twin brother, Tommie Lee Dawson; and brother, Preston Dawson. Left to cherish memories of her life are her son, Larry Don Simmons; daughter, Karen Austin (Bobby); daughter, Geraldine Evans (Alex); sister/niece, Barbara Baines; grandchildren, DeAnthony Patrick, Nakita Kibbe (Phillip), Terrence Brooks, Bryan Brooks, Tommie Joe Brooks Jr. (Patricia), Mark Ashton Smith, Kamari Smith and Dalvin Jackson; ten great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Nell Dawson; nieces, Alma Allen, Joyce Winston (Gene), Michelle Cash (Thomas) and Jackie Gill; nephews, Mark Dawson, Preston Dawson (Pamela) and Tommy Dawson; her Barbour's Chapel Church Family and many other loving relatives and friends.
