

Patricia Joann McIntosh Spence was born September 29, 1939 to the union of the late Joseph Scott and Clarice Ella Lakey McIntosh. She attended public school at Lorraine Crosby School, Hitchcock, Texas, and was a graduate of Lincoln High School, La Marque, Texas. She furthered her education receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree at Huston-Tillotson University, she received her Master of Education from Prairie View A&M University, Teaching Certificate from Sam Houston State University, and Texas Southern University and University of Houston Clear Lake receiving her L.L.D. Certification. Patricia confessed Christ at the early age of 9 and was baptized at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church (GMBC) by Pastor H. T Smith. She continued her membership under Pastor B.J. Hunter at Galilee for 45 years and remained at Galilee with Pastor S.D. Siverand until her health failed. Patricia was not only a member of GMBC , she was a servant as a Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher/Worker, Youth Choir and Senior Choir member; Vice President and member of the Educational Committee; and one of the church receptionist until her health failed. Patricia was affiliated with many community and civic organizations: LaMarque Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; Lifetime member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; Galilee Court #323 Heroines of Jericho - Prince Hall Affiliation, The College of the Mainland Advisory Council Board, Member of Texas State Teachers Association, National Education Association and Building Representative Local Classroom Teachers Association. Patricia worked as a Teacher for 36 years. Navasota ISD, Grambling State University, Galveston ISD, and worked at Shrine Burn Hospital for 10 years as a Teacher. Her spiritual advice to the youth today was Proverbs 3:5-6, Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. While Patricia loved working and developing children, Her greatest love was being a grandmother. She loved to travel, watch TV, cook and go shopping also. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Julian C. Spence on December 22, 1960, to this union three children were born, Darius R. Spence, Twyla Dawn Spence and Wally Keith Spence. Patricia departed this life and moved up to a "Brand New Home", June 13, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Julian C. Spence and two children.
