

Vivian was born December 12, 1915 in Eagle Lake,TExas to Mrs. Alma Jones Sims and Mr.Simon White of Bay City, Texas. Vivian had a green thumb and loved gardening. She attended elementary school in Bay City and graduated from Central High School in Galveston, Texas in the class of 1933. She later attended Galveston College and Vocational Nursing at John Sealy Hospital. She worked at UTMB for 27 years until she retired. Vivian was a member of Greater Bell Zion Baptist Church in Texas City where she was a former member of the choir. She and her husband, Howard, were owners of Club Desire in Texas City. Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mrs.Ardalia Phipps and her husband, John Sr.; two brothers, Clarence Sims, Sr. and Freddie Sims, Sr. Vivian was united in marriage to Howard Owens, whom she married twice and upon his demise, she married Langston Boone, her high school friend. She passed from this earthly life Monday, March 4, 2013 at her home. She is survived by her adopted son, Gerald L. Sims of Texas City; nephews, Johns R. Phipps of DeSoto, Texas and Clarence Sims Jr of Friendswood; a niece, Ruby Christine Bradford Sims of Houston, Texas; a step-daughter, Leslie Wilcox (Robert) of Los Angeles, California; and a devoted friend of many years, Jerlee J. Owens of Texas City, Texas; as well as a host of relatives and friends.
