Charlotte I. (Zeller) Myers, 88, of Pleasantville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home April 5, 2025, surrounded by her great big family. She was born Dec. 15, 1936, in Lancaster, Ohio. Charlotte often reflected on how proud she was of that great big family, saying she and her husband of 70 years, Carroll “Shorty” Myers, “started all of this.”Charlotte is survived by generations of adoring children and grandchildren who are equally as proud to have had such a caring matriarch at the head of their family. They include her five children: David Myers (Laurel Stokes), Richard Myers (Margaret Wince), Carolyn (Keith) Rowles, Don (Rennee) Myers, and Mike (Sonia) Myers. Her 11 grandchildren: Jennifer Shamblin, Jeremy Myers; Rebecca Myers (Corey Roskoski); Bethany Rowles (Brian Harford), Amy Wallen, Sarah (Ben) Sholl; Keith Myers, Jonathan (Jessie) Myers, step granddaughter Jessica Dickerson; and Moriah (Wes) Allen and Molly (Thomas) Green. Her 14 great-grandchildren: Lauren, Kylie, and Katie McMahon; Claire Roskoski; Arabella, Quinn, Elaina, and Warren Sholl; Bennett Myers; Shalynn McCafferty, Jacob Cox and Brandon Dion; Isaac Allen; and Emmitt Green. Her three great-great grandchildren: Parker Jackson, Lance “Treigh” Mullins, and Xoie McCafferty. She is also survived by her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Alton Myers, Marilene Culp, and Darrell (Nancy) Myers, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Eunice Fern (Grubb) Franks; father, Francis Zeller; brother, George August “G.A.” Zeller; dear stepfather figures, Les Franks and Tom Goff; and siblings-in-law, Alice Myers, Phyllis (Bob) Hutcheson, and Gary Culp. Charlotte met her husband at Pleasantville High School, claiming she knew she wanted to marry Shorty Myers the first time she saw him in the hallway. The couple married Dec. 27, 1954, an anniversary they hoped could have been on Christmas, except for the fact that the courts were closed that day. In December 2024, the two celebrated their platinum anniversary — a feat only one in 1,000 couples achieve. After attending beauty school in Bexley in the 1950s, Charlotte started her family. She later took those skills to her role providing hair and makeup services at Halteman Fett & Dyer Funeral Home in Lancaster. Charlotte’s impact and love will be forever felt far beyond the length of this newspaper column. She was a devoted public servant throughout her community of Pleasantville, working in the streets department, at the post office, and serving on LaSertoma and the Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. A knock on her door might have been to see her as a notary, a position she happily held for many years. One of Charlotte’s lasting contributions is marked with her making history in the 1970s as one of the very first women, alongside longtime friend Betty Freeland, to serve as a paramedic in the state of Ohio. Annually, she coordinated the Pleasantville Memorial Day parade and ceremony with Ross George American Legion Post 9 — always sharing a poem in her signature red hat — and organized the town’s summer Heritage Festival in the 1990s and early 2000s. She was well known in her family as an enthusiastic bingo and lottery player, regularly taking her grandkids to the bingo hall on their 18th birthdays. Charlotte also loved bowling, traveling around the country for tournaments and league outings. She made time to remain active in her local senior group, rarely missed a class reunion, and always had her famous Texas sheet cake ready for any visitor. Charlotte’s lightheartedness and friendship showcased a truly charming personality. That spirit emanated from her kind blue eyes and warm smile — all which will be eternally missed. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Pleasantville Sociables. Cremation has taken place. Charlotte will later be laid to rest in Hampson Cemetery in Pleasantville. Family and friends are welcome at the Halteman Fett & Dyer Funeral Home, 436 N. Broad St., Lancaster, on Friday, April 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. with a memorial service to follow starting at 4 p.m.
