

Rev. Donald Lee Irvin, 79 of Lancaster, passed away, Sunday October 14, 2012 at Main Street Terrace Care Center after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born July 5, 1933 in Altoona, PA. to William and Lucille Irvin. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Corpsman during the Korean Conflict. After receiving a BA from Juniata College he attended United Theological Seminary where he earned a Master of Divinity degree. Donald was a United Methodist Pastor for 40 years and pastored in: Glasgow, PA., and in Ohio at; Miamisburg, Cincinnati, Columbus, Toledo, Fremont and Somerset. Don was a devoted husband and father who loved his God and family. Serving his Lord was the delight of his life and spreading God’s love to others was his life-long mission and joy.
He is survived by: his wife of 55 years Jean, daughter Marsha Irvin, son Cary Irvin and two granddaughters, Mariah and Sarah Irvin. While pastoring he was very active in Family Ministries and developed district family work-study trips to mission areas. He worked with Police-Clergy Crisis Counseling in Cincinnati and with the Boy Scouts for many years.
A celebration of Don’s life will take place at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, October 18th at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert McDowell officiating. Entombment will take place at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family invites friends to visit with them at Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home on Wednesday evening October 17th from 7-9 P.M., and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
