Gary Lee Franke

Gary L. Franke of Lancaster, Ohio passed away on August 9, 2025. Gary was the beloved son of Norman Richard Franke Sr., and Kathleen Osborne Franke. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Shirley (Franke) French brother Charles F. Franke, Richard E. Franke, Michael (Mick) Franke. Gary is survived by his brothers Norman R. (Sharon) Franke Jr, Rodney Franke, many nieces and nephews and by many cousins especially in the Zanesville area. Gary was known for his strong work ethic and took great pride in completing remodeling home projects. From a young age, he showed natural entrepreneurial spirit, starting by selling bicycles and eventually moving into automobiles and real estate. A familiar face at auctions, Gary was easily recognized by his signature white flat cap, which he wore so auctioneers could spot him in a crowd. He was a cherished member of several social circles, including the Breakfast Club at McDonald’s, the Friday Night Group (fondly known as the Harem), and the Sunday Group. He spent a significant portion of his life at his lake house on Buckeye Lake, where he created countless memories with his friends and family. Gary was a passionate supporter of many charitable organizations, including Shriners Hospitals, St. Jude’s, the Boys Club, the Ronald McDonald House, Charity Newsies, and many others. Known for his kindness and generosity, Gary often bought meals for those in need and provided them with work on his real estate properties. He believed deeply in second chances, even when they came with risk. Gary felt that everyone deserved the opportunity to turn their life around.

Visitation will be held at Halteman- Fett & Dyer Funeral Home, Lancaster on Thursday August 21, 2025 from 5-8 PM and Friday August 22, 2025 from 2-4 PM with a Celebration service at 4:00 PM at the funeral home.
