

James A. Hall (Jim), 84 of Lancaster, OH passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at FAIRHOPE Hospice, Pickering House having lived gracefully for 25 years with Parkinson’s Disease. Jim was born on August 29, 1938 in Lancaster, OH, the son of the late Thomas H. Hall, Sr. and Elizabeth Hyde Hall. He was a 1956 Graduate of Lancaster High School where he participated in the baseball and basketball programs. He also graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor’s degree in business where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and became a Life Loyal Sig. He proudly served in the United States Army and was employed by Anchor Hocking Corporation for 27 years before his retirement. Jim was a 59-year member of the Masonic Lodge #346, Connellsville, PA. Jim was extremely active in St. John’s Episcopal Church including being on the vestry, singing in the choir and serving admirably as the Master of Acolytes and Verger. He always supported the Lancaster City Schools through attendance at sporting events and volunteering in the classroom where he often shared his knowledge and passion for World War II history or as he often referred to it as “The Greatest Generation”.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mildred (Mid) Orndorff Hall; two daughters, Juliet (Todd Kasler) of Charlotte, NC and Jennifer (Derk) Matz of Lancaster, OH; grandchildren, Keith Kasler, of Charlotte, NC; Jacqueline Kasler, of Raleigh, NC; Ty Spires, of Johnson City, TN; Morgan Spires, of Lancaster, OH; sisters-in-law, Lynn Hall, Susan Hall and Jane Burkey; sister and brother-in-law Nancy and William Dawson; as well as nieces and nephews, Claudia (Larry) Carracher, Richard (Donna) Balsley, Douglas(Steffler) Balsley, Jill (Tom) Pifferetti, William (Denise) Dawson, Brian Dawson, Mary Ellen (Rob) Wagner, and Sue Anne (William) Pogachnick . Kimberly (Michael) Steel, Alishia (Jeff) McCauley, Andrew (Chelsea) Burkey, Kristen (Mike) Hill, Erin Hall, Michael (Gwen) Hall, and Carrie (Greg) Ehrhard; and a large number of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Stephen H. Hall; sister-in-law and brother-in- law Laura and Richard Balsley and nephews, Matthew Hall and Andrew Hall.
Jim preceded his older brother, Thomas H. (Tim) Hall, Jr. in death by four hours on April 25, 2023.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. John’s Episcopal Church (134 Broad St. Lancaster, OH 43130) officiated by The Rev. William Pursley and The Rev. Michael Ralph. Immediately following the service, Jim’s ashes will be placed in the St. John’s Memorial Garden with a military salute.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church (134 N. Broad St. Lancaster, OH 43130) or FAIRHOPE Hospice (282 Sells Rd., Lancaster, OH 43130) in memory of Jim.
