

Melanie was born on September 10, 1970 at St. Ann’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio to William and Teresa Nickell. She graduated from Northridge High School and continued her education through Columbus State where she obtained her associates degree in business.
She had many jobs throughout her lifetime. Her longest career was with Fairfield Union Local Schools as the head cook for the middle school. Her most recent occupation was with the Village of Rushville, where she worked as a fiscal officer.
Melanie married Scott E. Baker on September 14, 1996 and were happily married for 29 years. Their marriage was filled with love, laughter, and never ending memories. Scott and Melanie have two daughters, whose love for their mother will never fade.
She enjoyed many hobbies, including hiking with her husband, crafting, sewing, and baking. Melanie was known for her delicious desserts especially around the holidays; there was no shortage of anyone asking for more.
Melanie’ s love for Christ led her to be involved with First United Methodist Church and volunteered when opportunities arose.
She is survived by her husband, Scott, her two daughters, Abbi and Lizzi, and family dog, Harris. Her father, William Nickell, her brother, Chad (Amy) Nickell, sister in law, Tari (Dave) Thimmes, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Melanie is preceded in death by her mother, Teresa Nickell, mother-in-law, Carolyn Kemmerer, and father-in-law, Thomas Baker.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 29, from 2:00PM to 5:00PM at Halteman-Fett and Dyer Funeral Home in Lancaster, Oh. A second visitation followed by the service will be held Monday, March 30, from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at First United Methodist Church Lancaster, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to The First United Methodist Church or Fairfield County Park District. In her final days, Melanie requested friends and family to wear bright and cheery clothes to help celebrate her life.
