

She is survived by her cherished children, Curt (Melinda) McCune, Lona (Richard) Shumaker and Molly (David) Carsey. Sharla was a loving grandmother to 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She is also survived by a brother, Roland Dean (Janice) Peters and many nieces and nephews.
Sharla was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rev. Doyal McCune, sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Robert Conrad, brothers and sister-in-law, Maynard and Gerry Peters and Paul and Florence Peters, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Royal and Hattie McCune.
Sharla was a graduate of Pleasantville High School and went on to marry her high school sweetheart in 1953. She was very active in the community and church; Fireman’s Auxiliary, Mother’s Club and was a church youth leader for many years with her husband. She was well known as a bank teller in Pleasantville and Baltimore where her customers were always greeted with a smile. Later she retired after 38 years of service. She was a member of the Rushville CCCU Church and served the Lord alongside her husband for 31 years as a pastor’s wife there as well as teaching Sunday School and later becoming Treasurer.
Sharla had a beautiful soul and was dearly loved by her family and friends. A special thank you to Hospice, The Pickering House nurses and Dr. Varney for their kind care. Also thank you to Dr. James Whetstone for his help and kindness through the years.
A private family graveside service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, July 3rd, 2021 at the Oakthorpe Cemetery with Phil George officiating and Nick England assisting. Arrangements have been made through the HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Fairhope Hospice and Palliative Care in Sharla’s name.
