“Made you smile.” That is what Anthony (Tony) Scott Snyder believed about life. He was a creative man, a perpetual inventor, who seemed to be able to find a solution for any difficulty confronting him. He had faith in his ability to find those solutions. Anthony thoroughly enjoyed understanding how things worked. He possessed an inquisitive, confident, and rational nature matched with a versatile and agile mind. Anthony was a person who believed that he could achieve whatever he set out to do. Above all he was proud to be a Canadian.
Anthony was born on May 17, 1970 at Burnaby General Hospital in Burnaby, B. C. His parents were Lyle Snyder and the late Shirley White. Tony was raised in Abbotsford B. C. He showed his ingenuity even as a child. When he was confronted with a problem, Tony could develop an imaginative solution, and he derived satisfaction from knowing he had that ability.
Tony was raised with two siblings. He had one older sister Jesyka and an older brother Mark. When a difficult situation or dilemma arose within the family, Tony was always there to help figure out a solution for making things work.
As a young boy, Tony could be found building and inventing new and different things (Armour boy). He was curious, resourceful and interested in anything original. Tony took part in baseball and tennis. In his spare time he liked comics, especially spiderman, and caring for animals. Tony's memorable achievements included winning trophies in baseball tournaments.
Endowed with an appetite for knowing how his world worked, Tony enjoyed school, especially when the learning experience involved dissecting and probing the unknown. Tony was adept at scrutinizing different possibilities and designing innovative solutions. He graduated from Yale Secondary School in 1988. He enjoyed some courses more than others, having favorite classes and teachers. His favorite class in high school was drama. The teacher he enjoyed learning from the most was Mr. Sweeney.
He was socially resourceful, an expressive person who was willing to try new things. These qualities drew a lively circle of friends around him. Always interested in his friends’ activities and interests, Tony was uncritical of his acquaintances. He was sought after by people who recognized that he was generous with his time and energy, and a very forgiving person. These same friends found Tony to be very stimulating company. Tony's sense of humor and curiosity were contagious for those around him. While growing up,he had many friends. One of his best friends being his brother Mark. They did a lot, from playing in a band together to just "hanging out". Later in life, he became friends with Dietrich Toews, Joy Konynenbelt, Sharon Schooner, Lorne Welch, and Andrew Kucheran and considered his coworkers great friends.
When Tony met the love of his life, Trish, they became 'TnT', a team who did everything together. He was an entertaining conversationalist who was quick to respond to his spouse’s needs. He had a vibrant personality and he enjoyed joking with and just being with Trish. He was very perceptive in recognizing others’ feelings, especially regarding Trish's.
Tony was blessed with one son, Kelly, who was the shining star in his life. Tony's remarkable talent for being inventive influenced his relationship with Kelly. He would create original, clever and fun games for him. Someone who was quick to laugh, Tony found it easy to spend lots of time with his son and his nieces.
Tony was definitely in his element in his work place. He could easily create new and innovative systems, and incorporate those changes to bring a fresh approach to any work situation. Tony was a focused worker with a strong drive for achievement. His happy personality was infectious to those around him. His primary occupations were drywalling and delivery driver. Tony always made an effort to be a team player, doing what needed was necessary in order to get the job done.
Tony's passion for finding a better way to do things was often an end in itself for him. Since he was always searching for new and unusual activities, he developed many interests and leisure pursuits. Some of the things he became an “expert” in might come as a surprise to those who knew him, but most friends and family understood that Tony simply couldn’t be limited to just a few activities or ideas. His favorite pursuits were watching hockey (the Montreal Canadiens) with his mom, camping, fishing and movies. Some of his favorite actors included Jim Carey,Clint Eastwood,Robert De niro and Jack Nicholson. Music was a huge passion, from playing his drums to listening to his favorite groups such as Rush and Led Zeppelin. Cooking and hanging out with friends were also top on his list.
Tony's calm demeanor and eternally positive outlook served him well in sports. In high school, he played tennis. As an adult, he continued with tennis and added roller hockey to his recreational activities. Top on his list of sports to follow were hockey, tennis, baseball and ultimate fighting.
Having the opportunity to visit and explore a new place always intrigued Tony. Camping and going away on vacations offered yet another opportunity for him to expand his ever-growing inventory of knowledge. Favorite vacations included a trip to Disneyland, numerous trips to Whidbey Island and camping anywhere, even in his backyard.
Tony was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. His special dog was a shepherd/husky named Otis. His family was rounded out by his cat Bonzo, which he named after his favorite drummer.
Tony passed away on March 1, 2010, surrounded by his loved ones, at Royal Columbia Hospital in New Westminister, B. C. from the complications of a brain aneurysm. He will be deeply and forever missed by his common-law partner Trish, his son Kelly, his father Lyle (Kathy), sister Jesyka, brother Mark (Sharon), many nieces and cousins. He is also survived by his daughter Emma. Services were held at Henderson's Fraser Valley Funeral Home. Tony was cremated.
During his lifetime, Tony would look to the positive side of life. He felt everyone needed to have laughter in their life and was always there to help you smile. He met the words “it can’t be done” with the enthusiastic challenge of a “wanna bet” attitude. Tony was able to recognize the possibilities a new idea held, even when those around him could not. For Tony, the traditional way of doing things fell short of his expectations, especially if there were original and untested methods for handling an adventure. For Mr. Anthony (Tony) Scott Snyder, the fun of living his life could be found in the adventures.
Cheers!
