Predeceased by both Robert in 2020 and daughter in law Marie Klaude in 2021, survived by grandsons Simon and Nicholas (Rachael), and daughter Barbara (Doug).
Beverley grew up in the Kitsilano area of Vancouver and shared fond memories of her time growing up there, lots of time spent at the beach, the Kitsilano showboat, the fish ‘n chips stands, her bike and the local library, she said that she’d almost lived at the library on those long hot summer days, she enjoyed it so much. After finishing school, she worked for a period of time for a Vancouver optometrist before marrying.
As a young wife, Beverley moved with her husband while he was in the Air Force to several air force bases in Whitehorse, Gimley, Manitoba and Red Deer, Alberta to name a few before coming back to Vancouver and living for a period of time with very caring family friends Vera and Tommy before buying a house and settling in Burnaby where the family remained for approximately thirty two years, securing a stable environment for us kids to grow up in.
Beverley had many happy times living in Burnaby, it was a young family neighborhood where the kids and friendships grew and lasted. Many happy times were shared at a neighbor’s pool, backyard barbeques, corn roasts, Christmas open houses and day trips. And laughter, so much laughter. It was a great childhood for us as kids, we could count on and go to any neighbor in the event of an ‘event’, no one was a complete stranger.
As her children grew, Beverley went back to work at Eaton’s Department store at Brentwood Mall in Burnaby where she worked in the China Department and loved it. She became very knowledgeable about the products being sold and loved to help create attractive displays at Christmas time, wearing red aprons adorned with Christmas corsages and placing poinsettias in just the right places. In addition to making a salary, Beverley also made friends at work, ones that again carried into her personal life and came to mean a great deal to her. Again, so many laughs and shared memories.
The marriages of her sons and arrival of her grandchildren followed. Beverley loved the grandchildren so much, and as their lives progressed she took pride in their achievements. Steady, solid, hardworking, independent individuals all of them and she was so proud of how their lives had progressed.
Retirement came and Beverley and Perth said goodbye to Burnaby and hello to Langley. They bought a town house they loved where they could have a pedestrian lifestyle if they chose, everything was within walking distance. Beverley never drove but she was a great walker, and took her cart and off she’d go, she’d cover miles with that cart. She had a back-up cart she could use while Doug repaired wheel bearings in the other one, he had to do it twice she’d used it that much. She’d figured out how to haul just about anything and everything she needed, including some cedar shrubs to plant at their townhouse. Many of these trips included lunch at the Willowbrook Mall where she’d enjoy her favorite A & W hamburger and/or an order of Chinese food from the local restaurant to bring back home for dinner.
Beverley and Perth came to know others in the complex and enjoyed many good times there. Coffee times, pot luck dinners, ladies lunches, Christmas parties, walking groups, games nights. There was the Willowbrook Mall walking group where Beverley came to know more people and made more friends, and as was happily the case, more laughs.
Travel followed with trips to England and Scotland, trips to Hawaii, a Panama Canal cruise, a cruise to Alaska, trips to Las Vegas, California, Jasper, Banff and Palm Springs to name a few. Beverley had found wanderlust and enjoyed it to the hilt, sharing these memories through pictures and the treasures she brought home.
About this same time they bought a trailer in Washington. Beverley loved the trailer and the environment so much, the lovely big trees, cute out buildings, and the fire pit. She had so much fun decorating it inside and out, and making it very comfortable and inviting for all who visited.
Many evenings were spent at someone’s fire pit in the park sharing stories, laughs and ‘refreshments’. Beverley also hosted the ladies at the trailer and one particularly eventful trip involved arriving in style in a limousine with a bowl of potato salad sitting on her lap. Pictures illustrated what good times they shared.
Unfortunately for Beverley, she lost her two sons and a daughter-in-law in fairly quick succession starting in 2015. For such great loss, she showed inordinate courage and dealt with her pain privately and with grace and dignity.
Beverley left this world at age 94 on July 31, 2023 after a lengthy bout of health issues. A loving mother, grandmother and friend, always ready with a hug, compassion or a laugh. You are so missed Mom and Grandma.
Xoxoxo Your loving family.
