July 1, 1943 – January 9, 2025
Dorothy Ann Brown, lovingly known as “Dot,” was born on July 1, 1943, in Edinburgh, Scotland. She passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully on January 9, 2025, in Langley, British Columbia, surrounded by the love of her husband Archibald (Archie) and their two children, Susan and Stewart.
One of seven siblings, Dorothy’s journey took a transformative turn in 1965 when she immigrated to Canada. That same year, during the Christmas season, fate brought her together with Archie, a young handsome Scotsman from Glasgow who had also recently immigrated to Canada. Their bond was instant and enduring; they married on December 10, 1966, beginning a life enriched by mutual devotion and unwavering commitment that spanned 58 remarkable years.
Dorothy embraced her role as a wife and mother with boundless love. Together with Archie, she raised two children—Susan and Stewart—and found immense joy in her grandchildren, Kayleigh and Evan. Her family really was the heart of her world.
A passionate lover of nature’s beauty, Dorothy found solace and inspiration on hiking trails near and far. Over many years she and Archie hiked all over the Lower Mainland of BC with their loyal Border Collies Skye and Laddie and as far away as the rugged peaks of Ben Nevis in Scotland to the breathtaking vistas of Yosemite National Park, the Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Arches National Park and the volcanoes of Hawaii; she explored landscapes that mirrored her adventurous spirit. Even as hiking grew more difficult in later years, she remained undeterred; daily walks with Archie became a cherished ritual-sometimes up to 10 miles a day.
Dorothy’s warmth and kindness touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She had the most beautiful and sweetest heart and leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and curiosity that will forever inspire those who mourn her loss.
We love you Mum, forever in our hearts. xox
