

MUIR, E. Weir February 22, 1921 - May 22, 2011 - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father Weir Muir. He is lovingly remembered by his two sons in Canada Gavin(Susan) and Cameron(Linda) along with grandchildren David and Jennifer. He is also remembered by his one son in Scotland John(Dot) and their children as well as many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen (Kathie). Born in Nanaimo, B.C. he began his long career with the Royal Bank of Canada in 1938. In 1941, he enlisted in the RCAF and in 1942 he was posted overseas joining the #410 RCAF Night Fighter Squadron. After the war, he returned to the Royal Bank of Canada working in Nanaimo, Kemano, Youbou, Kerrisdale, New Westminster and Langley branches as the local manager. He retired from banking in 1981. He was active in many community activities in Langley including co-founding the Langley Chapter of SPEBSQSA (Langley's First Capital Chorus) in 1969 along with singing lead with his own barbershop quartet The Fraser Highway Men. He spent 9 years on the Langley Memorial Hospital Board, 10 years as President of the Langley City Parks Foundation, and 4 years on the Fraser Valley Regional Library Board. He served a 2 1/2 year term as the President of the Langley Chamber of Commerce, not to mention his support of both Kiwanis and Rotary service clubs. He was also a long serving member of the Eureka Lodge #103 and lent his support to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #21. He was also known as "Langley's Singing Alderman" during his 9 years as a Langley City Alderman. A life-long songwriter, composer and singer he spent his later years in the pursuit of these hobbies and also found time to write a monthly story for the Seniors Choice Newspaper for over 18 years. He shall be greatly missed. A celebration of his life will held at the Sharon United Church in Langley on Thursday June 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Agency.
