

LaRose, Kent Evan, (“Rosie”/ “Cliff Clavin”), age 53 of Langley, BC passed away suddenly on Thursday June 20th. Kent was born on December 17th, 1971 in Kipling, SK, the son of Delbert and Margaret LaRose of Lanigan, SK.
Kent began his educational and professional journey at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology in Moose Jaw SK, where he graduated in 1995 with a Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology. After graduation Kent worked for a few years for McElhanney Consulting Services Ltd. In Prince George BC where he was a surveyor, draftsperson, designer for industrial haul roads in the forestry sector. Seeking further education, Kent ventured east to Thunder Bay Ontario where he completed his Bachelor of Engineering (First Class Standing) from Lakehead University in 1999. After graduation Kent returned to McElhanney in Prince George where he became a Bridge Engineer and received his Professional Engineer in BC in 2005. Kent remained at McElhanney until 2010, during which time he completed his Master of Science in Structural and Earthquake Engineering from the University of British Columbia in 2007, all while working full time. In 2010 Kent joined Morrison Hershfield Ltd. as their Western Canada Bridge Lead where he was responsible for building a world class bridge group during his
five years there. While at Morrison Hershfield Kent was responsible for designing the award winning Capilano Cliff walk, a “World’s First” pedestrian walkway cantilevered from a canyon rock face in North Vancouver BC. From 2017 to 2019 Kent worked for Solid Rock Steel where he obtained his welding certification and inspection certification and worked on some landmark projects including the Metrotown Skytrain Station renovations and Christ Church Cathedral seismic upgrades. In 2017 Kent ventured out on his own and developed Legacy Engineering, a boutique engineering firm that provided engineering services for unique and pioneering custom projects including the Cloudraker Skywalk Bridge and Raven’s Eye Cliff Walk at the Peak of Whistler Mountain in Whistler BC. In 2019 Kent joined Parsons Inc as the Bridge Lead for Western Canada. While at Parsons Kent was involved in numerous high-profile projects including the Southwest Calgary Ring Road in Calgary Alberta, Regina Bypass in Regina Saskatchewan and the Kicking Horse Canyon Phase 4, which was recently awarded the ACEC-BC Award of Excellence, ACEC-BC Governor General Award, and ENR Best Global Transportation Project for 2024. Kent was passionate about his work and who he worked with, that was reflected in the projects he left us with and in those who he worked with. In his own words he loved his job.
Despite his many professional achievements Kent’s proudest role was being dad to his twin girls. He loved his time with them, and was never shy to tell anyone how proud he was of his girls. Kent enjoyed music of all kinds, especially with his “brother” Govinder and family in the “music room”. Other interests of Kent’s to note are; books, hockey, travel, and time in the great outdoors. Kent will be remembered for his sharp sense of wit, his macaroni and cheese, and his ability to make everyone around him feel special.
Remaining to cherish Kent’s memory are his daughters Anna & Jada, father Del, brother Mark (Janet), nieces and nephews Autumn, Scarlett & Mitch LaRose and Susanne, Sarah & Brian Tardiff, special friend Sumitra Pranpanus, many colleagues, friends, extended family and the girls mother Katherine Tardiff LaRose. Kent was preceded by his beautiful mom Margaret.
