This announcement is made with heavy hearts, as he will be missed by so many. At the same time, we reflect upon the happiness for a life well lived. Les aged 88 years old and resident of Langley, British Columbia passed away peacefully Thursday March 18, 2021 at 11:50 AM holding hands with the love of his life, Rita.
Leslie Frank Charles Toth was born May 3, 1932 on the homestead near Lestock, Saskatchewan to Steve and Victoria (Hordos) Toth. He was the 11th of 12 children.
He is lovingly remembered by his wonderful wife and soulmate Rita Margaret Mary (Frisko) Toth married for 60 years, their 5 children, 5 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter whom he all loved dearly; daughter Karen (Rob) their son Alex and daughter Kailee (Scott) and their daughter Reese; son Mark (Theresa); son Brian (Elisa); daughter Verna (Mike) and their sons Theo and Brock; daughter Wanda (Sean) and their daughter Joerjia. He is also survived by his sister Helen (Merv) and their family, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Les was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He always had lots of love for anyone he shared his life with, regardless of whether you met him briefly or shared a lifelong journey. Growing up in Saskatchewan, Les graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Saskatchewan in 1955. Les fell in love with the ocean on his honeymoon to the coast with his beloved Rita. He moved his family to British Columbia, after first starting his successful career as a professional engineer in Saskatchewan, when he joined the Gas Engineering Division of BC Hydro in 1973 as a Design Engineer in the Pipeline Design Department. Then from 1975 to 1980 Les worked in the Metric Conversion Department as Metric Coordinator while Canada was converting from Imperial Measurement to the Metric System. After his knowledge and expertise was well served as Metric Coordinator during the Metrication process in Canada, Les moved back into design engineering, specializing in odorant facilities province wide. For those of you who do not know the odorant is the smell that is put into gas to keep us all safe if there is ever a gas leak. Les not only had a loving heart, with his beautiful mind he created these odorant facility designs with pride and conviction to keep people safe.
In addition to his successful career, Les had many other wonderful traits and was an incredibly talented craftsman. Many of us will hold dear to our hearts the woodworking projects he made. Les had a brilliant artistic mind and a generous and kind disposition. He saw many changes in the world and was always willing to learn something new. His favourite pastime was keeping in touch with all his loved ones via technology. With his quick wit and wonderful sense of humour he always had time to share moments of love and laughter with everyone he held dear. He loved sports and was quite the basketball player in his younger years. Les was also a dedicated Saskatchewan Roughriders fan and never missed a game.
Recently, he was completely dedicated and focused on writing his memoirs. His life journey did not give him the time to publish; however, this is something he was immensely proud of.
With these many extraordinary achievements to better our world, his magnum opus, his love, his pride was his family. Les, loving husband, dad, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, now our spirit guider, will be forever in our hearts. Those of us who knew him, are so grateful, as we are now more caring, compassionate, and empathetic people because of the gift of love he bestowed upon us. He led us by example as he taught us all: we make a living by what we get, but the true gratification in life is found by what we have given and Les gave his entire heart to all of us.
Due to the provincial health order against gatherings in British Columbia we will be having a small family service with the hopes of having a celebration of Les’ Life to include more loved ones when health orders allow. Condolences may be sent to hensersonslangleyfunerals.com
