Luauna, known to many as Lu or Lucy, was born on September 08, 1956, in New Westminster to Harry and Patricia Strange, and was raised in Crescent Beach.
Lu worked as a Supervisor for the BC Teachers’ Federation. She retired in 2019 after 28 years of dedicated public service.
Lu loved painting, crafts, and gardening. While she was primarily self-taught, she excelled in each of these pursuits. She also enjoyed walking, birdwatching, reading, and spending time with her sister, both at home and at her favorite getaway, Harrison Hot Springs.
Lu was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star and belonged to its Langley and Burrard Chapters. In 2022-2023, she was appointed as the Grand Representative of British Columbia and the Yukon to the Grand Jurisdiction of New Mexico, where her son then resided.
Lu will be remembered for her warmth, sense of humor, and courageous spirit in the face of illness. She cared deeply for those around her and was known for her generosity, intelligence, and thoughtfulness. Her family and friends will remember her for her resilient spirit, laughter, and the joy she found in everyday life.
She is survived by her son, James; daughter-in-law, Katy; brother, Randy; sister, Cindy; nieces and nephews, Tyler, Devin, Oliver, and Brittney; and great-nephew, Kaiden. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Allie, and her parents, Harry and Patricia.
Memorial donations in Lu’s memory may be directed to Wildlife Rescue Association of British Columbia.
A memorial service will be held in the summer of 2026 at Henderson’s Langley Funeral Home, with the exact date to be announced on this website. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Lu’s life.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Wildlife Rescue Association of British Columbia at 5216 Glencarin Drive, Burnaby, BC V5B 3C1. Condolences can be sent by clicking on the link Show Your Support at the bottom of this page.
