Obituario de Melvin Harold Leganger
EN EL CUIDADO DE

Henderson's Langley Funeral Home

Melvin Harold Leganger, aged 82 years, passed away peacefully on August 29th, 2024, with his family by his side.

Mel was born in Smeaton, SK to Norwegian immigrant parents, John & Rena Leganger, on January 14th, 1942. At a young age his parents relocated the family to New Westminster, BC where he would spend his growing up years in a big, busy, loving family as one of 9 children with 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

At the age of 15 he followed his brothers into the Tugboat industry, where he eventually became a captain, and remained as such until his retirement at age 65.

Introduced by mutual friends, Mel met the love of his life Marlene, and they were married in 1964. They celebrated their 60th anniversary this past June. They had two children, Glenda & Brad. Mel loved his family, was always there for his children, whether through spending a good portion of time in an ice arena coaching Brad’s hockey team or watching Glenda’s figure skating or supporting them through all of life’s challenges and victories. He was an amazing Grandpa to Tori, Mya & Bennett and Gramps to his great-grandson Forrest. He loved his children & grandchildren so much, enjoyed every moment he got to spend with them, and was so proud of them all. The recent addition of his 3 step-grandchildren Austin, Grace & Luka just brought him more joy.

Mel was an avid fisherman in his early years and the family could often be found on their boat somewhere along the Sunshine Coast. He had a passion for gardening and his flowers were the envy of all who saw them. Watching sports was a big part of his life where he would cheer on his favorite Vancouver Canucks and Green Bay Packers. He always enjoyed a good glass of red wine and took up winemaking in his later years. He and Marlene had many opportunities to travel with Mexico being a favorite destination.

Mel will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Marlene, children Glenda (Joe), Brad (Tanya), grandchildren Tori (Timmy), Mya, Bennett, Austin, Grace & Luka, great grandson Forrest, numerous family and friends and his dog Jake.

Private service to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
