Mel was born at home in May 1944, in the small town of Newcastle upon Tyne in England. At the age of 13 he moved to Canada with his parents, settling in the Vancouver area. After graduating from Burnaby South high school in 1961, Mel studied Broadcast Communications at BCIT (class of 66) and then worked for CBC Radio for a few years. Later he settled into a successful career in flooring, starting as an installer then moving into sales. In 1979, Mel and his wife Liz decided to move to the country and buy a farm where they raised their 3 children. Then in June of 1991 they built a home in Mission, BC where they stayed until the end of 2020 at which time they bought an rv and were planning on traveling together through Canada and the USA.
Mel is predeceased by both of his parents, his brother Tom and his daughter Carol. He is survived by his loving, dedicated wife of 55 years, Liz; a son Jon (Melissa) and a daughter Shar. He has 6 granddaughters, Jessica, Rebecca, Emily, Haven, Sara, and Amanda. He also has a great-grandson Emmett.
The family is incredibly grateful for the encouragement and support of his church family at St John's Vancouver Anglican Church along with many other friends from throughout his life.
There will be a celebration of Mel's life on Dec 17th at 1:00 pm at St John's Vancouver Anglican church, 5350 Baillie Street.
