When I look back on Pat’s life I realize the consistent themes that run through it are community service and helping others. He earned his pilot license as a teenager and in his early 20’s chose to teach air force cadets. He later joined the West Vancouver Auxiliary Police Force and was an active member for about three years.
As the children grew, he stayed busy coaching their soccer and softball teams. Later on, he took on community projects and was an active member of the Lynn Valley Community Association. He became, in his words, a “council watcher” so he could make sure everyone was doing their job properly. When they didn’t, he was there to let them know.
In his spare time, he completely renovated our home room by room. If you wanted to know anything about cars or fixing anything, he was your “go to” guy. He spent many weekends fixing his cars, his daughter’s cars, working in the yard or completing projects throughout the house.
He loved Mexico and his convertible, and whenever he could he would go for a drive, top down, music playing with his dog in the passenger seat. He loved his family, and, although he did not express emotions easily, he showed it by helping them in any way he could. He was very proud of his three daughters.
Pat had many friends and loved to socialize. He enjoyed teasing them and received the same in return. As we’ve all seen in the last few months, he held an important place in their hearts.
We love him and we miss him.
