Born in Bristol, England on July 23, 1924, Sylvia and her younger brother (by two years), Lionel, and their parents Stanley & Lillian Hawkins would soon settle in Powell River, B.C., in about 1928. Despite the early-years struggles during the depression of the 1930s, she would often share her experience of the beautifully peaceful simple coastal life and the beach-combing days this idyllic storybook town had to offer.
Sylvia would eventually meet Anthony Thomas Kozak (deceased), an Electrical Contractor, in Vancouver. Settling in south Vancouver, they became proud parents of Donna Lillian (Klassen), Alan Stanley (deceased) and Bruce Anthony.
She enjoyed crotchet, loved a good drawn-out laugh, and became well-appreciated for numerous recipes she perfected over the years; Donna and Bruce will always treasure those.
A deep thinker, she found solace in parks and beaches, and among plants, and just talking, drinking tea, while enjoying the company around her and her pet dog "Dixie". Sylvia was also an avid daily reader, and would typically read two to three books per week on her kindle, even in her last few months, saying it to be one of the best gifts she has ever received.
Sylvia was always a very good listener, and took a deep interest in hearing from family and friends about any shared problems or sought advice. She was always there for that level of support. Sylvia passed peacefully on Monday, June 28, 2021, in her bed, just a few weeks shy of her 97th birthday. Friends and family members will deeply miss her.
