Age 73, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2011. He was born on June 26, 1937 in Goodrich, MI to Arthur and F. Louise (Hakes) Cook. Alan was very active in 4-H Club when he was younger and that lead to his interest in the outdoors. He later became active in Whitetail and Ducks Unlimited along with several other conservation groups. He was a member of the F & A.M. Masonic Lodge, Knights Templar and Shriner’s. Alan loved hunting, fishing, camping and spending time at the cabin he built. He was an avid reader and would never turn down a good game of cards. He worked for the State of Michigan starting out in the Department of Transportation and eventually retired from the Treasury Department in 1987 after 30 years of service. Alan is survived by his son, Bruce (Terilynn); daughter, Julie (John); 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brother, David (Doris); sister, Clarice and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
