At age 89, our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away February 9, 2020. Betty was born December 12, 1930 in Portland, Michigan, the daughter of Hubert & Belle Fryover.
Surviving are her 3 children, Hope (Robert) Mellis, Michael (Jane) Nelson, and Jill (Paul) Schulert; 2 grandchildren, Jeff (Beth) Mellis, and Danielle (Josh) Cheney; 3 great-grandchildren, Andrew Mellis, Sarah Mellis, and Elsa Cheney; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick S. Nelson; son, Frederick R. Nelson; her parents; sister, Viola Knapp; 2 brothers, Herbert Fryover, and Sam Fryover, and special friend John Pate.
Betty retired from Grand Ledge Public Schools after 27 years of service. She had lived in Grand Ledge, Lake City, New Port Richey, and Delta Township. During her life she enjoyed visiting with family, reading, Bingo, camping, traveling, card games, listening to music, coloring, oil painting, bowling, attending and watching sports (Grand Ledge and MSU Spartans).
