Lansing, MI
Beloved wife of Glen, was born June 12, 1922 in Lansing, Michigan to Mary E. (Ablett) and Laird J. Troyer. She passed away on September 19, 2012 at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in Lansing, Michigan. She was the youngest of four sisters, attended Lansing Public Schools and graduated from Eastern High School in January 1941. She enjoyed singing in the madrigal choir and had a beautiful voice. On September 21, 1940 she married Glen Sanders in Napoleon, Ohio. They had three children; Sandra K. (Sanders) Alldever, Laird James Sanders, and Andrew J. Sanders. Betty was employed at the State Accident Fund of Michigan and J.W. Knapp’s Department Store but her favorite “job” was as a loving and devoted homemaker for her family. She was involved as a troop leader in Brownies and Girl Scouts, PTA, Child Guidance Council – a consummate hands-on mother. She also volunteered at Sparrow Hospital and worked many years at local elections. She greatly enjoyed cooking (and sang while doing so) and served her family countless delicious meals prepared with love and care. She was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to 40’s era music. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchild were her greatest joy. She spent treasured times with her granddaughter, Dena Lillian Sanders, and with her grandsons, Isaac and David Turk. She also received drawings and phone visits from her great granddaughter, Ella Elizabeth Turk. Her children Sandy, Jim and Andy were blessed beyond measure to have such a wonderful mother. She was predeceased by the Love of Her Life, Glen R. Sanders; her parents, Laird J. and Mary E. Troyer; sisters, Jeanne Troyer, Edna Lantz, Ruth Troyer Eddie; and beloved youngest son Andrew J. Sanders. She is now reunited with them in heavenly eternal life. She is survived by her son, Laird James Sanders; daughter, Sandra K. Sanders; grandson, Isaac and David Turk; granddaughter, Dena Lillian Sanders; great granddaughter, Ella Turk; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom, our hearts are broken and life without you seems unendurable: The greatest blessing we could ever ask for is to be reunited with you again someday and hold your hand forever. The memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 125 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Lansing, Mi with the Rev. Peter Robinson officiating. Committal services for the family will be held at a later date. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes.
