Candy Lynn (Dexter) Burris passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the age of 66. One of Candy’s favorite verses was Exodus 14:14: “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Candy lived this verse. Through every trial and challenge life placed before her, she relied fully on the Lord’s strength to sustain and provide.
Prior to her retirement, Candy worked in sales where she was recognized as a top performer due to her strong work ethic and ability to cultivate authentic relationships with customers. Though she would have been too humble to admit it, Candy was richly gifted creatively. She was known for her beautiful sewing and painting projects, her delicious desserts, and her musical talent—singing on praise teams, playing the piano at church, and leading children’s choir. Most of all, she cherished time spent with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
Candy is survived by her husband of 41 years, David Burris; her children Lindsay (Aaron) Wood, Landon (Tiffany) Burris, Austin (Christina) Burris, and Trent Burris; her grandchildren Leo Burris, Griffin Wood, Luke Burris, Daphne Wood, and Aurora Wood; her bonus grandchildren Elijah Wood and Rachael Wood; and her fur-baby Josephine Ruby.
She is also survived by her father Larry Dexter, her sisters Robin (Dale) Anglin and Krystal (Jeff) Cox; her brother Scott (Susan) Dexter; her in-laws Kathy Dexter, Duane (Debbie) Burris, Diane (Odell) Berry, Donnis (Linda) Burris, Denise (Jim) Parks, and Dan (Angie) Burris; along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother Norma (Bosma) Dexter, her brother Matthew Dexter, her mother-in-law Norma (McMurrin) Burris, her father-in-law Donnis Burris, her step-granddaughter Alyssa Wood, her niece Julie Anglin, and her nephews Jay Anglin and Andrew Parks.
A celebration of life service will be held at Lansing South Church of the Nazarene, 401 W. Holmes Road, Lansing, MI, on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. At Candy’s request, attendees are encouraged to come dressed as they would for a house party—no suits required.
