

Carmen was born on October 5,1931 to Inez Nunez and Antonio Herrera, Dallas,Texas.
Carmen worked as a seamstress and then was employed and retired from Custodial Services, from Michigan State University. Carmen loved gardening and planted beautiful flowers throughout the years and seasons. She taught her children, grandchildren and friends the art of making tamales.
Carmen is survived by three children, Ernesto (Connie) Casanova, Amelia Casanova, and Rudolfo (Gloria) Casanova; Brothers Isaias Herrera and Juan Herrera; Many nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carmen was preceded in death by Enrique Casanova, Benito Herrera, Antonia Herrera, Richardo Herrera, and Ofelia Herrera.
A visitation will be held for Carmen on Wednesday, March 22, 3:00pm to 8:00pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, Michigan. The funeral service will be on Thursday, March 23, 11:00am at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, Michigan. A light luncheon will be after the service at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home.
At a later date, Carmen will be buried next to her husband, Miguel M. Mendez, at Maple Ridge Cemetery, Holt.
