"Some people make the world more beautiful and colorful". Carol was a prize winning quilt designer and artist, but her greatest art was as a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Carol passed away April 21, 2016. She was born in Lansing, MI on November 22, 1939 to Bernard and Eva Tubandt. She attended J.W. Sexton and Michigan State University. Carol loved quilting, painting, gardening, canning, playing golf and spending time with her family in Elk Rapids. Her selfless caring and constant concern for friends, family, and neighbors was inspirational to all who knew her.
On September 24, 1960, Carol married her one true love, Thomas Schafer, at St. Mary Cathedral, and they recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Together they raised 3 daughters, Joan Stembaugh, Andrea (Tom) Keating, and Laura (Kevin) Konen. She was an inspirational and loving example to her three daughters and ten grandchildren: Amanda, Christopher, Jonathon, Alexandra, Spencer, Emily, Elizabeth, Andrew, Sam, and Anna. She is survived by her three brothers, Walter (Sue) Tubandt, Rich (Patrice) Tubandt, and Alan (Kim) Tubandt and many other family members and friends.
Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday (Today) with the rosary service at 7:30 P.M. in the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing. Funeral Liturgy is 1:30 P.M. Monday, April 25, 2016, at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow, Lansing with Fr. David Fons presiding. Viewing will be from 12:30 to 1:30 P.M. Monday at church. Rite of committal St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society. Friends may visit the guest book at www.tiffanyfuneralhome.com.
