Carolyn was born on October 18, 1941, in Lansing, to the late Clyde and Lillian (Smith) Billips. She graduated from Eastern Lansing High School with the class of 1959 and attended Lansing Community College. In 1961, she married James Beckwith, and together they shared 41 years of marriage. James preceded her in death on February 4, 2002. Carolyn proudly retired from the Secretary of State and worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier for several years. She was a quiet, reserved woman who found joy in quilting, sewing, and basket weaving – for many years she was a member of the local Sewing Guild club where she lived. During the warmer months, Carolyn liked keeping up with her gardens. Above all, she absolutely loved being a great-grandmother and enjoyed reading books to her great-grandchildren. Carolyn was a wonderful woman who can never be replaced, and she will be dearly missed.
Carolyn is forever loved by her daughters, Laura (Todd) Snellenberger and Jamie (Ted Polichron) Beckwith; grandchildren, Jacob (Shianne) Hohman, Abigail Hohman, Kayla (Andrew) Doering, and Jaren (Kyla) Snellenberger; great-grandchildren, Ellie, Luke, Bo, and Jase; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and wonderful friends. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, James; parents, Clyde and Lillian; and siblings, Shirley, Clyde, and Mary Lee.
A visitation for Carolyn will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, with a celebration of life starting at 1:00 PM, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes Lansing Chapel, 900 E Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI 48912.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Carolyn may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
