Charles E. Henley, died on March 22, 2015. He was 90 years of age. Charles was born in Hendricks County, Indiana (Plainfield) on January 24, 1925. He attended and graduated from the Plainfield Indiana schools, Depauw University, Indiana State Teachers College and Colorado State College where he received his Doctorate of Education Degree in 1965. He was active in the broad area of education in Indiana. He served as Director of instrumental music in Avilla and Plainfield Indiana Public schools, he initiated the Speech and Hearing Therapy program for the Lake County Indiana Public schools; he served as Director of Special Education for the State of Indiana and as the Executive Director of the Governor's Commission on the Handicapped. In 1965 he accepted an appointment to the College of Education at Michigan State University in the area of Special Education. He retired from the University in 1984.
Charles was preceded in death by his father, Walter E. Henley, his mother, Anna Mills Henley and his brother, Robert M. Henley. He is survived by his wife Louise Henley of Delta Township, his son David (Sue) of Okemos, and two daughters, Rebecca Henley Leiby (Mark) of Grand Ledge and Mary Henley of St. Johns, and five grandchildren: Jason and Lauren Leiby and Samantha, Mitchell and Hannah Jewell. Also surviving are a nephew, Richard Henley, and niece, Marsha Blackman.
Visitation will be held at St. David's Episcopal Church on Friday March 27th from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. with service on Saturday, March 28th at 10:00 A.M. at church with the Rev. David R. Pike presiding.
