

Holt, MI
Born March 30, 1915 in Montcalm County near Vestaburg, MI, to David and Hannah Ropp, passed away October 5, 2011 at the age of 96. He worked for Chevrolet Motors in Flint during WWII. After the war he bought a sporting goods store in Alma, MI which he sold in 1949. In 1950 he took a job with a sporting goods firm in Rockford, IL. There he met and married Mary Wilder. They had a daughter, Sylvia and son, Douglas. In 1953 he moved back to Michigan to work for Vandervoorts. In 1955 he started his own business as a manufacturer’s agent which he worked at for 30 years. He enjoyed fishing and traveling and made several Labor Day Mackinac Bridge walks. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church from 1955, during which time he served on several committees as well as an usher. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 2002; 2 brothers, Orville and Ervin Ropp; 2 sisters, Edna Ropp and Erma Holden. He is survived by his daughter, Sylvia Ropp of Holt; son, Douglas Ropp of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Allen Ropp of Alma; sisters-in-law, Shirley Ropp and Verda Ropp of Florida; numerous nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 10, 2011 at Plymouth Congregational Church, 2001 E. Grand River, Lansing, MI 48912 with the Rev. Joy A. Baumgartner and the Rev. David Banfield officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 9, 2011 from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI 48912. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions to the church in memory of Clayton. The family is being served by the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes.
