

Constance Jean Moon was born August 10, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois to Homer and Mary Reed. She is the youngest of two children born to this union. The Reed family relocated to Lansing during her earlier childhood. Constance, known to many as Jean, was educated in Lansing-area schools. She graduated from Lansing Catholic High School in 1971.
After graduating high school, Jean began a long work career. She was employed by Wyatt Laboratories for twenty-one (21) years. Upon its cessation of operations, she gained employment at PTD Technology, where she worked for fourteen (14) years. She completed her work career at the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, where she was employed for three (3) years until her health began to decline.
Jean volunteered with various organization in the Lansing community. She was a board member of the former Walter French Academy. She was an active member in good standing with the A. Philip Randolph Institute – Lansing Chapter and BAD (Brotherhood Against Drugs). She was also a long-term member of the local NAACP chapter. In addition to serving in her community, Jean enjoyed traveling.
Jean joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church of Lansing in the late 1970s. She shared her passion and flair for crafting as a member of the 2007 pastoral installation decorating committee. She also sang with the Seasoned Saints choir. She remained a faithful member even as her health failed.
Jean departed this life on February 11, 2023 at the age of sixty-nine (69), surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her parents: Homer Reed and Mary and Leon Maffett; her grandson, Austin Wilson; and her brothers, Homer Reed, Jr. and Douglas Reed.
Those who remain on this earth to reflect upon and celebrate Jean’s legacy of life include: her children, Nikita Porter [Joe] of Florida, Larry Moon, Jr. of Tennessee, and Ashley Moon of Florida; her granddaughter, Emoni Porter of Florida; her sisters, Patricia [Dalrois] McBurrows of Michigan and Dionne Maffett of Indiana; her nephews, Kurt Reed of Michigan and Evan (Wendy) McBurrows of Minnesota; her nieces, Paula Reed-Cross of Michigan, Janet Armstrong [Elliott] of Ohio, Whitney McBurrows of Michigan, and Brooklynn Maffett of Indiana; her great-niece, Natalia McBurrows of Minnesota; her great-nephew, Tavian Davis of Michigan; and a host of family and friends.
