Constance "Connie" Travers

Connie was born February 16, 1922 on the family farm in Mason, the oldest daughter of the late Leon and Pearl (Vicary) Crowl, and passed away December 12, 2012 at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Travers in 1984; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Frank Twichell; brother-in-law, Frank Travers; nephews, Lt. Randy W. Twichell, and Thomas L. Twichell. Surviving to cherish her memory are her brother, Colon (Betty Jane) Crowl; sister, Dorlene Bayhan; nephew, Jim (Denise) Crowl; nieces, Susan (John) White, Cherie (Wayne) Mitchell, Cindy (Rick) Luce; dear nieces, Corrine Baldwin and Linda Belman; as well as many special great and great-great nieces and nephews. Connie was employed with John Bean during WWII. She was a former owner of Travers Auto Parts in St. Johns and had been a teacher at Harmon School in Williamston. She had been an active member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church since 1956. She also served as a volunteer for Ingham Medical Hospital for over 48 years. OWLS was important to her for many years. She had become friends with many at Independence Village. She will be remembered for her wonderful memory and her many, many friends. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 18th at Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, 501 E. Mt. Hope Ave, Lansing with the Rev. Robert Cook officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 16th from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing and one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, for those desiring, contributions may be made in memory of Connie to Mason Area Historical Society, 200 E. Oak St., Mason, MI 48854 or the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church. The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of Hospice Advantage, her Special Caregivers, as well as the staff at Independence Village in East Lansing.
