

Douglas Earl Boyd of Lansing, son of the late Earl and Elsie (Clever) Boyd, was born September 21, 1923, in Holt, MI and passed away on March 25, 2015 in Lansing, MI, at age 91. Douglas was a veteran of WWII, serving as an Air Force pilot in China, Burma and India, and received a Bronze Star and Distinguished Flying Cross. Douglas worked for MSU food stores for 38 years, retiring in 1986, and was known for his specialty in woodworking. He was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church for many years, and his church family will miss him dearly. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Tendercare West for taking care of their father for the last couple of years. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Elsie; first wife, Katherine (Ebright) Boyd; second wife Gwen (Porter) Boyd; daughter, Linda Mae Thompson; and step-father, Clarence Stevenson; and three grandchildren. Surviving to cherish his memory are his daughters, Judith (Donald) Corr, Nancy (Raymond) West, Stephanie (Chester) LaValley; son, Douglas (Shellene) Boyd II; son-in-law, Terry Thompson; step-son, John Thomas; step-daughter, April (Jim) Thomas-Dejongh; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren, and special friends Mark and Brenda Russell and family. The funeral service, officiated by Pastor Michael Bater of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2015, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Avenue in Lansing. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 29, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm and one hour prior to the service on Monday, at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow the funeral at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte, MI. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4001 S.
