Elizabeth (Betsy) Barth Goodman, 80, of Okemos, Michigan passed away on January 18, 2024. Betsy was born on April 5, 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Robert and Mary (Hovis) Barth. The family moved to Dayton in 1957, where Betsy attended Oakwood High School and loved attending the Oakwood reunions throughout the years.
She graduated from Northwestern University, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. After graduation she worked in Chicago and was a 3rd grade teacher for a time. She returned to school and received her Master's degree in Speech and Hearing in 1971 from Ohio State University. The day after graduation, she married Roger L. Goodman, and they spent 52 wonderful years together as husband and wife. Prior to Betsy and Roger settling in Okemos in 1973, Betsy worked as an audiologist at the Hines VA Hospital near Broadview, Illinois.
In Okemos, Betsy and Roger raised their children and developed strong friendships. For many years, she was a member of the informal "neighborhood walking ladies" group. Often Betsy's cherished schnauzers would come along on the walks. She and the family spent many enjoyable summers at the family cottage up in Lake Leelanau, boating, sailing, watching sunsets, and eating at the Bluebird.
Throughout her life, she helped children of all ages learn to read, whether it was tutoring students at the Erickson Center or sitting next to her beloved grandchildren reading to them and teaching them new words.
In addition to being a member of the Presbyterian Church of Okemos, she was a member of the philanthropic organization P.E.O. and enjoyed regularly hosting P.E.O. lunches at her house.
In her retirement years, she spent the winters playing bridge, hosting family visitors, and enjoying the sun while sitting out on the lanai at the house in The Villages, Florida.
Her family was her pride and joy. She leaves behind husband Roger; her two sons Bryan (Kristen) and Eric (Jill); grandchildren Daniel, Peter, Abigail, and Noah; her brother David Barth, sister Marilyn Barth and brother-in-law David Brown.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
