Enriqueta Martinez

Enriqueta (Villanueva) Martinez passed away peacefully with her husband by her side and surrounded by family on Thursday, March 17, 2022. She was born on September 20, 1938 in Lake Odessa, Michigan to Jose and Catalina (Favela) Villanueva.

She had a beautiful, full life raising nine children, 26 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren. She married the love of her life Jose Marin Martinez on August 11, 1957. She saw Jose at a dance and told her best friend Sally, "I'm going to marry that man." There are many stories on how they got married. They went on a date and Jose brought Enriqueta home late, but as the story is told... two weeks later they got married!

Enriqueta is survived by her children Roberto Martinez, Juan David Martinez, Virginia Suniga (Carlos Arambula), Angela (Jose) Torres, Andrea Martinez (Andrew Snively), Monica Martinez, Mario Martinez(Johanna Kriz) and daughter-in-law, Melissa Cook. Her grandchildren; David Martinez, Christina and Jesus Arriaga, Laurisa Suniga, Antonio and Tina Martinez, Jose Jaime Martinez, Rene and Maribel Martinez, Amanda and Jorge Perez, Evie Hernandez, Toribio Lopez, Alexis Medrano, Santino Martinez, Isreal Martinez, Marisol Contreras, Felipe Vicente Contreras, Noah Martinez, Emily Martinez, Gabrielle Martinez, Briana and Cory O'Brien, Mindee Best, Olivia Martinez and Dylan Filicky-Torres; Great-Grandchildren, Jesus, Venicio, Isabella, Eduardo, Carlos, Juaquine, Julian, Alejandra, Andres, London, Genevieve, Thomas, Annalisa, Aleina, Cynthia, Nathan, Angel, Elena, Colby, Adalai, Ace, Mitchell, Aubrianna, Raelyn, Kai, Leilani, Sophia, Jorge Jr, Valerie, Alonzo, Reyna, Evani, Roman, and Aylin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Catalina Villanueva; her siblings: Carlos Villanueva, Luiz Villanueva, Ester Madison, Roberto Villanueva; her children: Olivia Maria Martinez, Jose (Joey) Martinez; her grandchildren: Eduardo Suniga II, and Danielle Dallys Martinez.

Serving as pallbearers are: David Martinez, Antonio Martinez, Jose Jaime Martinez, Isreal Martinez, Felipe Vicente Contreras, Jesus Arriaga, Noah Martinez, and Rene Martinez.

A visitation will occur Wednesday, March 23, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at 3232 West Saginaw Street, Lansing, MI 48917. A rosary service will occur Wednesday, March 23, 2022, 7:00 PM. Funeral services will occur Thursday, March 24, 2022, 11:00 AM at Cristo Rey Church, 201 W. Miller Rd, Lansing, MI 48911. A graveside service will follow at St Joseph Catholic Cemetery, 2520 West Willow Street, Lansing, MI 48933.
