Felix G. Fernandez

Born July 6, 1922 in Campechuela, Cuba, the son of the late Felix L. and Juana M. (Ramirez) Fernandez, passed away December 31st at the age of 90. Felix came to the United States from Cuba in 1962, at the age of 40. He obtained a Law Degree from the University of Havana. He was a banker, for over forty years, in Cuba and the United States, retiring from Michigan National Bank in 1985. In retirement he split his time between Lansing and Miami. His family and friends were the center of his life, and they will remember him for his honesty, and integrity, and for how much he sacrificed for them. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Luis; and son-in-law, Dr. Philip Smyka. Surviving to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Mercedes A. (Moreno) Fernandez; daughter, Maria de las Mercedes Fernandez Smyka; sons, Luis F. (Trinidad) Fernandez of Miami, FL; Norbert E. (Carmen) Fernandez of Lansing; Gustavo (Connie) Fernandez of Lansing; grandchildren, Drs. Felix (Christina) Fernandez of Decatur, GA, Dr. Norbert (Laurie) Fernandez of Plymouth, MI, Dr. Carlos (Stacy) Fernandez of East Lansing, Carmen (Abraham) Cuddeback of East Lansing, Natalie (Trevor Jones) Smyka of Los Angeles, Nicholas Fernandez, Esq. of Lansing, Philip (Dr. Rebecca) Smyka of Lansing, Patricia Smyka of New York, NY, Anthony Fernandez of Lansing and Steven Smyka of Lansing; as well as twelve great grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 5th at Church of the Resurrection, 1531 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, January 4th at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing.
