

Frank Koval, former Director of Development for the Diocese of Lansing, passed away on August 12, 2011 at the age of 86 from complications of Alzheimer?s disease. Frank was born on June 24, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of the late Andrew Koval and Katherine (Ulicny) Koval. Frank graduated from Sacred Heart Seminary in 1946 with a degree in English and Philosophy and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Cardinal Mercier Council. He was a veteran of the Korean War, receiving an honorable discharge from the Army as a sergeant First Class in September 1953. He then became a founding partner of the John V. McCarthy & Associates fundraising firm where he used his expertise to help Catholic parishes, diocese, hospitals, etc. He became the Director of Development for the Diocese of Lansing in 1973 and served with distinction until his retirement in December 1994. Following retirement, Frank volunteered at St. Gerard Church in the T.R.I.P program for several years until he became too ill to continue. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, brother John Koval, and his wife Margaret Ann ( Brennan) Koval to whom he was married for 38 years. He is survived by his five children: Jim (Betsy) Koval of Lansing, Mark (Cindy) Koval of Traverse City, Tom (Katie) Koval of Charlotte, Bob (Mary) Koval of Grand Rapids, and Kathy (Tom) Gawrych of Grand Rapids. He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Benjamin, Matthew, Christopher, Jonathan and Meghan Koval; Ethan and Lauren Koval; and Emily, Grace and Andrew Gawrych. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow Hwy, Lansing with Fr. John P. Klein presiding. The Mass will be preceded by an hour of visitation prior to the funeral. Visitation will also be from 4-8pm Tuesday at the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing, with a scripture service starting at 7pm. Friends may sing the online guestbook at www.tiffanyfuneralhome.com.
