He was born August 29, 1949 to Homer and Mary (Mitchell) Barker in Independence, Kansas. His family moved to Colorado and after graduating from high school, Gary enlisted in the Navy and served in the Vietnam War. He married Janet Kosec on June 17, 1977 in Colorado, and eventually, he and his family all moved to mid-Michigan where they spent the rest of their days. Gary was a devoted husband and a good father, spending much of his time caring for Janet after her diagnosis with MS. He was a gifted, self-taught artist.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his four brothers, Bobby Barker, Billy Barker, Homer Barker III, and Larry Barker.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Janet; his children, Jasmine and Daniel Barker; his grandson, Jacob Badour; his sister, Marvinette Callahan; and his nieces and nephews, Talissa, Shakira, Maurice, Andre, and Phillip.
Memorial services will be private.
